Anyone seen any hurricanes lately?

Just wondering. I mean seeing as we were all told that after Katrina back in 2005, we were all going to be blown away by mega hurricanes which would increase in severity and number each year due to global warming.

It won't be long before Labor Day now. And so far? We have had one tropical depression in the gulf and zippo in the Atlantic.

Global TC Activity remains at 30-year lows at least -- The last 24-months of ACE at 1090 represents a decrease from the previous months and a return to the levels of September 2009...Since Hurricane Katrina (August 2005) and the publication of high-profile papers in Nature and Science, global tropical cyclone ACE has collapsed in half. This continues the now 4-consecutive years global crash in tropical cyclone activity. While the Atlantic on average makes up about 10% of the global, yearly hurricane activity, the other 90% deserves attention and has been significantly depressed since 2007. See Figure below.

Northern Hemisphere year-to-date ACE is nearing 50% below normal. The Western North Pacific is at 17% of normal (or the past 30-year average).

Colin and Bonnie both go into the books as a couple of the weakest tropical cyclones on record. No storms were recorded in the Eastern Pacific during July!

August and September will have to be record activity for the hurricane forecasts to pan out in the North Atlantic. See discussion at Watts Up With That?

July 31: Current ACE for July in the Northern Hemisphere is 14.2 and consists of Alex, Chanson, Bonnie, and Chanthu. No ACE was recorded in the Eastern Pacific.

And then there were none

There is currently one surviving WWI veteran in this country. Frank Buckles. He is 110 years old. It won't be long now before he is gone and after that, it won't be much longer before all of America's greatest generation are passed with him.

Seek them out now. Talk to them, honor them and above all thank them while there is still time.

A Race Against Time: Actor Works to Capture War Stories

A Los Angeles actor is trying to preserve history by recording veterans’ war stories before they are lost forever.

David Meyer has been capturing oral histories since 2004 and boasts a collection of more than 200 audio recordings, but his work is far from over.

He specializes in World War II veterans, a feat that grows more challenging by the day as the generation that witnessed the attack on Pearl Harbor grows older and less able to share their memories from decades passed.

Meyer said he is reminded of this race against time on his visits to the 95th Infantry Division’s annual reunion.

“When I first went in 2004, there were 500 men,” Meyer said. “Last year, there were 90.”

Hoodwinked and Bamboozled

So I decided to post a different version.


One of the most perverse things about Obama is that, when he’s trying to get tough with the opposition, what he says about them is often the best clue to what he’s actually doing, or planning to do.
Case in point—his latest declaration about the Republicans (video here):

…[T]hey’re betting on amnesia. That’s what they’re counting on. They’re counting on that you all forgot. They think that they can run the okey-doke on you. Bamboozle you.

Like many of Obama’s most revealing remarks, these were made at a Democratic fundraiser, this time in Atlanta. And the word “bamboozle” is an especially nice touch, harking back to a famous scene in Spike Lee’s film “Malcolm X,” a reference that would most likely be recognized by a great many people in his Atlanta audience.
I said the speech appears in the film; Malcolm X never actually said the words in real life. But since movies about history have largely become a substitute for history, these cinematic words may be more famous than any the historical figure of Malcolm X actually uttered. The movie context was a speech made by Malcolm in Harlem, on the subject of the white man. Rest assured that Obama (who has used these phrases quite a few times to describe his enemies) is aware of the racial code he’s employing, and what it means to many of the black people in his audience.

So I have to stand here today as what I was when I was born: A black man.
Before there was any such thing as a Republican or a Democrat, we were black.

Powerful stuff and once again, right in America's face and the MSM just acts like nothing is going on at all.

Policy gaffe? Or Fruedian slip?

When I read stories and reports like this, I tend to lean more toward the belief that what we have here is a slip of the tongue as opposed to someone speaking from a lack of knowledge or awareness of the facts. After all, Camerin is the PM of the UK, so it must be assumed that he as our own president, has been brought up to speed on intelligence truths and realities globally.

Are Cameron's remarks a gaffe? The British media would have the world think so. But I have been watching and listening to a number of people over the five or six years who each have said that Iran would have a weapon within a year to two years. And that was five years ago. 

Personally?  I believe they have several of them already and they are just producing and stockpiling more right now for their intended war with Israel.

Cameron foreign policy gaffe of the day: Iran’s nuclear weapon

 |You might have thought that David Cameron would be steering clear of foreign policy gaffes after his “news-rich” visit to Turkey and India*.

But he has just been accused by Labour of making a new blunder by mistakenly claiming that Iran has a nuclear weapon (at least, we are still assuming he’s wrong) during a PM Direct meeting.
The prime minister was asked why he was backing Turkey to join the EU and said it could help solve the world’s problems….”like the Middle East peace process, like the fact that Iran has got a nuclear weapon”.
Chris Bryant, shadow Europe minister, said Mr Cameron was becoming a “foreign policy klutz”.

“This is less of a hiccup, more of a dangerous habit,” he said. “Considering Iran’s nuclear ambitions constitute one of the most important foreign policy challenges facing us all, it is not just downright embarrassing that the prime minister has made this basic mistake, it’s dangerous.”

Downing Street said Mr Cameron “mis-spoke”. He had meant to say that Iran appeared to be trying to pursue a nuclear programme.
* Mr Cameron prompted controversy when he said (while in Turkey) that Gaza was a “prison camp” and said (in India) that Pakistan was exporting terror.
You may also recall that during the televised election debates he suggested that China posed a nuclear threat to the UK.

And let’s not forget his deputy Nick Clegg claiming that the Iraq war was “illegal”, which - whether you agree with him or not - is not the official government position, unsurprisingly.

Let them eat cake

The fact that I think along similar lines of a number of other people and from time to time I think along the lines of a few in the media is nothing noteworthy. But when I am ahead of their curve concerning observations, I have to pause and reflect and consider the fact that I am not somewhere out in left field as it were after all. 

Case in point......my revelations of yesterday concerning our first lady and the parallels I saw in comparison to the late great queen of France, one Marie Antoinette. 

All I can add at this point, is that I find it somewhat amusing and more than satisfying to note that others are picking up on the realities of our present day monarchs in the White House. And aside from that? I am waiting for a few of them to finally address the reality that our first lady looks more like a vacationer arriving at Myrtle beach with the kids for a weekend, than she does the wife of the president of these United States.

Sacrifice is something that many Americans are becoming all too familiar with during this economic downturn. It was a key theme in President Obama's inaugural address to the nation, and he's referenced it numerous times when lecturing the country on how to get back on its feet.
But while most of the country is pinching pennies and downsizing  summer sojourns - or forgoing them altogether - the Obamas don't seem to be heeding their own advice. While many of us are struggling, the First Lady is spending the next few days in a five-star hotel on the chic Costa del Sol in southern Spain with 40 of her "closest friends." According to CNN, the group is expected to occupy 60 to 70 rooms, more than a third of the lodgings at the 160-room resort. Not exactly what one would call cutting back in troubled times.
Reports are calling the lodgings of  Obama's Spanish fiesta, the Hotel Villa Padierna in Marbella, "luxurious," "posh" and "a millionaires' playground." Estimated room rate per night? Up to a staggering $2,500. Method of transportation? Air Force Two.
To be clear, what the Obamas do with their money is one thing; what they do with ours is another. Transporting and housing the estimated 70 Secret Service agents who will flank the material girl will cost the taxpayers a pretty penny.
Perhaps it could be that the Obamas, who seem to fancy themselves more along the lines of international celebrities than actual leaders, espouse a different view of sacrifice. When Michelle Obama accompanied her husband to Copenhagen along with best buddy Oprah Winfrey, she billed the trip - an ultimately unsuccessful bid to bring the Olympics to Chicago - as follows: "As much of a sacrifice as people say this is for me or Oprah or the President to come for these few days, so many of you in this room have been working for years to bring this bid home."
A quick jaunt to Denmark is a sacrifice? What portraits in courage!
The Obama modus operandi is becoming clear. From lavish trips to Spain to reportedly flying Bo, the President's Portuguese water dog, on a separate aircraft to vacation with them in Maine, to a date night in New York City that perhaps cost nearly $100,000, their idea of austerity is really just the lap of luxury, at least for ordinary folks.
Incredibly, the Obamas have long portrayed themselves as precisely such commoners. Just this month, Obama told ABC the First Couple is "not that far removed from what most Americans are going through." And that "it was just a few years ago that we had high credit card balances, we had two kids, thinking about college. We had our own retirement accounts, wondering if we were going to be able to get enough assets in there.
