Now that there is some open space at the weekend for other news stories, the Chronicle is pushing back and in fact calling out the White House on their lies.
Sadly, we expected the White House to respond in this manner based on our experiences yesterday. It is not a truthful response. It follows a day of off-the-record exchanges with key people in the White House communications office who told us they would remove our reporter, then threatened retaliation to Chronicle and Hearst reporters if we reported on the ban, and then recanted to say our reporter might not be removed after all.
The Chronicle's report is accurate.
If the White House has indeed decided not to ban our reporter, we would like an on-the-record notice that she will remain the San Francisco print pool reporter.
I was on some of those calls and can confirm Ward's statement.
Messy ball now firmly in White House court.
If you are familiar with the original story, this is certrainly and interesting turn of events. If you aren't familiar with the story, Go Here and read the entire piece.
The really interesting part of the entire affair? The San Francisco Chronicle is one of the more (most) liberal organs in the nation. And this is the way they were treated by this white house? Yeah, they are pissed and they are letting people hear about it. They should. This incident just goes to demonstrate the utter lack of respect this administration has for the truth and the manner in which they attempt to control media through access and intimidation.
Maybe one day? The leftist media in this country will wake up and return to the balanced values that they should have been employing all along. And maybe one day? Unicorns and flying pigs will come out of hiding and join the rest of the world in their praise.
By the way, this is the cell phone video the reporter posted and was spanked by the white house over.
And the official White House press Secretary version:
“The San Francisco Chronicle violated the coverage rules that they — and every other media outlet — agreed to as part of joining the press pool for that event. If they thought the rules were too restrictive they should have raised that at the beginning,” White House press Secretary Jay Carney said in a statement. “However, no reporters have been banned from covering future presidential events and the White House of course would have no problem including any reporter who follows the rules in pool-only events.”
