Corporate Jets and Tax Breaks
Of all the issues discussed in that speech, the corporate jet issue is what really struck a chord with the media and it is something that will continue to resonate with the weak minded and easily led, particularly if the president has his way in the matter.President Obama’s core message in his Wednesday press conference, his first since March, could be found in his advice to Republicans. “You go talk to your constituents and ask them, ‘Are you willing to compromise your kids’ safety so some corporate-jet owner can get a tax break?’”
There is only one small problem with Obama's rhetoric on the economy and who is responsible for our continued woes. It wasn't the evil republicans who passed the corporate tax break for private jet owners. As a matter of fact? It was the Pelosi and Reid controlled congress of 2009 who passed it and president Obama who signed it into law. As part of the $278 billion stimulus bill no less.
Yet here is the president two years later? Telling Americans that it was the evil Republicans and their evil rich supporters who did these terrible thing to the American people. Once again according to Obama, it is the republicans who are responsible for all evil in the world.
But it gets better.
There is the recently released report on Obama' economic stimulus program. A report by the White House’s Council of Economic Advisors. A group of hand picked economist who the president charged with the responsibility of seeing just how well the stimulus package impacted the economy. The group evaluated the effects of the stimulus package and their assessment presents a problem. A problem that the White House now admits to be the truth.
Each job created by Obama's stimulus package? Costs American taxpayers $278,000 per job.
Obama administration admits $278 per job costs.
Now here is the kicker. When the Obama administration releases a report on the Friday before a long weekend, it’s clearly not trying to draw attention to the report’s contents. Sure enough, the “Seventh Quarterly Report” on the economic impact of the “stimulus,” released on Friday, July 1, provides further evidence that President Obama’s economic “stimulus” did very little, if anything, to stimulate the economy, and a whole lot to stimulate the debt. The report was written by the White House’s Council of Economic Advisors, a group of three economists who were all handpicked by Obama, and it chronicles the alleged success of the “stimulus” in adding or saving jobs. The council reports that, using “mainstream estimates of economic multipliers for the effects of fiscal stimulus” (which it describes as a “natural way to estimate the effects of” the legislation), the “stimulus” has added or saved just under 2.4 million jobs — whether private or public — at a cost (to date) of $666 billion. That’s a cost to taxpayers of $278,000 per job.In other words, the government could simply have cut a $100,000 check to everyone whose employment was allegedly made possible by the “stimulus,” and taxpayers would have come out $427 billion ahead.
If you follow along with the logic presented by the president's speech last Wednesday? A theme that he and the liberal left have continually hammered for the past three years?
The president is directly responsible for the creation of over 2 million more evil rich people. By definition, anyone who makes more than $250,000 a year is evil, rich and probably a corporate jet owner. Therefore, Obama's stimulus package created over 2 million more of these very same people that he blames (once again) for all the ills of the American economy. The very same people that he says need to be taxed more now.
Or else our children won't get scholarships to college, and we will have to stop funding the national weather service and a myriad of other programs that the president says that we cannot do without.
I think not. I think the American people are once again being lied to and once again, the dumb masses will buy into the logic of politically crafted class warfare. And in the end, taxes will increase, the deficit will increase, the size of government will continue to grow and individual rights and freedoms will continue to shrink.
