There is no justice

Having just watched the Casey Anthony verdict rendered live, I have only one observation. There was no justice for Caylee Anthony today. The weakest of alibis prevailed and Casey Anthony walks away with four misdemeanor convictions of lying to police and is declared innocent of murdering her two year old daughter. This coming Thursday she will walk away free and clear.

I would be inclined to argue that this was a case of jury nullification but it wasn't. This was a case of the prosecutor being out of his depth and arrogant to a fault, no more no less. The jury seized on that prosecutorial arrogance and rendered their verdict on the prosecutor's arrogance rather than the evidence of the one responsible for the death of this little girl.

Once again, acquittal does not mean innocence in America and once again acquittal certainly doesn't represent justice. Meanwhile, the talking heads of media are now engaging in the aftermath of lamenting the joys of our legal system and once again our legal system supposedly proving itself as the epitome of fairness and justice.

I am sorry, but there was no justice in that courtroom today. Only the reality that what Abraham Lincoln once said is true. "You can fool some of the people all of the time." And today's verdict stands as testament to the truth of that statement like no other. And in the end, Casey Anthony becomes a celebrity and eventually she will become a reasonably wealthy woman for her "story."
