OK, so it's been a little over a week since the news of the timely demise of Osama Bin Ladin. What has changed? Aside from some eye opening passes by the American media on this administration, not much in my opinion.
Obama's taking out Bin Ladin wasn't exactly the coup of popularity that would have been imagined. A grand total of six points boost to the popularity, whereas Bush's numbers jumped 9% on the heels of the capture of Saddam Hussein. So what's up with that? (Must be racism) Right........
The facts now revealed say that we could of had Bin Ladin last October based upon intelligence then. If so, why wait seven months? In my opinion, the president was waiting for the opportune time to call the shot, to hopefully maximize the effects on his waning popularity.
That obviously hasn't happened and what's worse, I believe that last week's road show to ground zero and Ft. Campbell only further exacerbated the feelings of most Americans on the matter. Rosie O'Donnell and resident loons aside, most Americans are glad the bastard is dead and could care less if he was armed or resisting or asleep when it happened.
The problem is, after giving the impression that he wouldn't dance around the corpse, Obama indirectly did just that and to add insult to injury, he has taken far too much credit for the demise of OBL. Most Americans are smart enough to be familiar with the pecking order, therefore, they know who actually took out America's most hated enemy. So Obama's high staging events in the aftermath only further aggravates the sensibilities of a good many Americans.
Now we all must wait and see what will be the aftermath of the assassination of OBL. Personally? I believe it further demonstrated the absolute idiocy of this administration, to publicly claim that they had recovered a treasure trove of intelligence from OBL's compound. What morons! Every terrorist worth his salt will now be ditching cell phones and safe houses and moving to different ground. So what was the purpose behind releasing the statement that we now had all of the best intelligence? Answer, none.
Unless of course, you are trying to diffuse all possible inquiries into the mission period.
So will Al Qa'ida strike again? In retaliation? Certainly. but their attacks right now will be limited engagements targeting markets and schools and government buildings and businesses with their homicide bombers. Primarily in the middle east and with a few side excursions into Europe. Quite literally, I don't think they have the capabilities beyond that right now. OBL was definitely a figure and a financier, but he too looks to have run low on finances. and now who will be the go to people for the money?
But never the worry, the death of OBL has already triggered major knee jerk reactions in security all across this country. And millions more will be spent in the immediate future, looking into back packs and empty boxes and unsolicited packages in the mail.
Meanwhile, the world economies continue to sink and oil continues to be a major problem as does food production (which no one is really paying attention to right now) and sooner or later the looming and stalking specter of inflation is set to appear and really screw things up here on the home front.
So in the final analysis, did the killing of OBL really accomplish anything? I'd say outside of mega doses of self satisfaction? That was about it. More misery to come.....
