Obama's Victory Lap

It's been almost a week since the news of the death of Osama Bin Ladin. What a difference a week makes. A lot has happened in the last six days IMO, but the most interesting thing, has been the reaction of the president and some of the subsequent revelations of his response and actions in the media.

It goes without saying that having OBL dead is a good thing. The fact that the man killed over three thousand Americans and then taunted this nation and its people for almost ten years, certainly justifies his demise regardless of the details of how that was accomplished. Armed and resisting or cowering and defenseless, makes little difference to me. The animal deserved death.

The president seems quite pleased with himself in public and in media interviews in the aftermath of the mission. While on the one hand stating that he wasn't going to release the death photos of OBL, as he didn't want to spike the football? He seemingly has done everything to spike the football since he first made that assessment concerning the photos.

The trip on Thursday to ground zero is the most glaring example of a PR photo op IMO and I was glad to see the reality wasn't completely lost on the 9/11 invited families who were asked to attend. The simple reality is this, Barack Obama has visited ground zero once prior to this visit and that too was a photo op. It was back during the 2008 campaign when he and John McCain both made a visit on the same day.

Fast forward three years and there have been no subsequent visits by the president, on anniversaries or otherwise. Yet in the aftermath of the news of OBL's death? Suddenly there was a need to visit the site, lay a wreath and to invite the families of 9/11 victims to be there with him.

I can't speak for the majority, but I can certainly speak for myself and those actions 'to me' speak entirely to the fact that Barack Obama wanted to take a victory lap and bask in the afterglow of the 'look what I did moment' concerning the death of OBL. The media and a number of leftist celebrities immediately seized upon the news of OBL's death to pump up this president and to quickly assert that he had accomplished something that George Bush could not and the media gladly waltz alongside the white house all week long.

On the one hand I tend to agree on one point. Obama has accomplished something that George Bush didn't. Bush could have gotten OBL in my opinion, but chose not to over the egalitarian propaganda that 'violating the sovereignty of another nation' wasn't worth it, even if it meant getting OBL. Obviously, Barack Obama had no such reservations. He said he would get him if he could and he did. The only question at this point is the timing. And IMO, the timing of OBL's May 1st demise is key.

The president furthered his push for recognition yesterday when he made his trip and grand entrance at Fort Campbell Ky., supposedly to thank those in the military involved in the mission to get OBL. Maybe it is me? But I believe that this could have been accomplished absent all the media coverage and pomp and circumstance that have become trademarks of this administration.

Personally, I don't believe George Bush would have engaged in such petty pandering. Firstly because it is not in his nature and secondly because he would realize that the media would tar and feather him as an arrogant political opportunist if he even hinted that he intended such a road trip.

No, George Bush would have made a private trip unannounced to thank those involved and his sentiments would have originated in sincere thanks and appreciation and not some desire to be seen arriving and making speeches.

So......in my opinion, what we saw this week was the attempted exploitation of the event by a president who authorized the mission, for the singular purpose of trying to pump up his own image and numbers in the face of a flagging economy, continued unemployment and soaring consumer prices.

That won't last mr. president. No more than the failed programs of federally funding incentives to prop up the housing and auto industry with the people's money did. This too will be revealed as the sham that it really is and the people will soon return to the reality of their daily misery, absent concern over the death of OBL or your victory tour.

What looms on the horizon now, is the very real potential of, not  'if' Al Qa'ida will strike in retaliation, but that this administration will allow them to do so as a subsequent means of generating another opportunity for the people of America to be led to the belief that this president is their savior.

I don't think that will wash. I believe that even in the face of  a media barrage of lies and manipulations of the truth, the American people will see through to the truth and realize that they have been set up for another terrorist attack by the actions and weak policies of this president.

Surely there are those like the legions of minions in Hollywood and elsewhere who will praise this president regardless of consequence, but the vast majority of the people won't long suffer the lies and purposeful deceit, once they have again been bloodied by the religion of peace again.

So.....take you victory lap mr. president. Polish your peace prize and order up a few more teleprompters if you will. Stand on the seeming moral ground of refusal to release photos and claiming moral superiority in the face of a fate that you crafted. In the end the photos will be released. Not that they should be and not that they need to be, but based upon the fact that the Jerry Springer mentality that drives the majority of American media will see to it that they are released.

Regardless of whether the media has to buy someone off, or they succeed in a freedom of information act request to get them, the photos will be seen by the American people eventually. Their blood lust will be satisfied. And yes, for a short time once they are released, you will once again be allowed to bask in the glory of your accomplishment, but not for long.
