A small battle of Titanic proportions

Obama to Visit Massachusetts in Final Campaign Push for Coakley

Whilst the eyes of America and the democratic party have been focused on the president's health care reform coup in congress, a small but very important battle has been being waged over in Massachusetts over who will be elected to fill the senate seat left vacant by the death of Ted Kennedy.

And it now appears that those sticky little details (the voters) are creeping up and biting the democrats in the backside on the eve of this election.

A month ago Scott Brown was just some lack luster political candidate running for the seat simply because the republicans needed to have someone on the ticket to at least give the appearance of a fight and a campaign for the vacant seat. But oh what a difference a month makes. And as each day has passed Scott Brown has pulled closer and closer to Coakley in the polls. And he has now succeeded to the point where now, he is considered at worst in a dead heat with democrat shoo in Martha Coakley. And at best? He is ahead by at least four percentage points going into Tuesdays election.

So now it is time to summon the Titans. The White House has today announced that the president will make an appearance in Massachusetts on Sunday, to attempt and sway the voters to come out for Martha Coakley.

Several media pundits today, including Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck have noted that how Obama plays this senate seat election, may in the end speak volumes about both his own continued marketability and the outcome of this race and the midterms.

The consensus of opinion in many political circles seems to be, that if he goes to Massachusetts and Martha Coakley loses the election after his supposed boost, that the end effect will not bode well for either Obama of the democrats come November and the midterms.

On the other hand, if Martha Coakley pulls out the win (even by a slim margin) that will be seen as a major triumph for both the democrats and the Obama White House. Personally, I hope that Brown not only beats here, I hope he shames her with a landslide. But I will settle for a win.

Which brings out the next immediate reality. That being the fact that if Brown wins, the democrats will do everything possible to call for recounts and stall his taking the seat for the immediate future if not forever. A Brown win means the end of their 60 seat majority and the senate seat stolen in Minnesota by Al Franken and ACORN.

Payback is a beach.....ain't it.

After next week... when Brown wins... just as they are treading Tim G. down and preparing him for the under-bus...

... it is going to be painful watching the dem. machine go to work dismantling the president themselves...

I would not be too shocked to see the president do a major transformation and swing to conservatism... out of retaliation...

Yet I won't hold my breath... it's just that if brown wins the dems are going to become like a bunch of wounded dogs... and it is very hard to predict what a wounded dog is going to do.

I don't believe Geitner is going anywhere anytime soon. But if Brown wins? They will pitch a fit. Count on it.
