Short Attention Span Theater

Having followed the daily news and history making events for the past thirty five odd years of my life, I often find interesting what seems to pique the interests of Americans at large as so called news reporting.

I have come to think of Americans at large, as suffering from 'short attention span theater' disorder. A form of mass hypnosis or mass hallucination if you will. Short attention span theater is actually a take off on a syndicated Comedy Central program of the early 90's. The plot of the program was basic, the hosts and various guest celebrities would appear weekly, to critique what was represented as supposed news stories of the day. a tongue in cheek repartee that poked more fun than reality at the news.

As some would say, this genre of spoof 'newsing' was a real 'pastiche' of presentation, where both the word pastiche and the reality it represents seem far more applicable to what I am seeing in the world of represented journalism today. Today's offerings of media reporting have long since left their credos of journalistic integrity and impartiality by the way side. Opting more frequently for the glib and the shock and the staged presentation, or the knowing finger to nose nod of the liberal elite far more often than simply and honestly reporting the news. Even president Obama remarked of it recently when he addressed the media directly and told them that he was not on a 24 hour news cycle like they are.

Gone are the days of Edward R. Murrow and the smoke filled rooms where journalists hammered away on typewriters attempting to beat out copy of the latest breaking reports from around the world. Today everything is canned or pre-staged or choreographed and packaged for the perceived audience that the advertisers are trying to reach. And one look at the day's line up of supposed new stories each day only reinforces that reality IMO.

Presently? There are a number of issues that should find the average America exceedingly worried. But unless and until one of these happenings affect them immediately and directly? They'd rather tune into Entertainment Tonight or David Letterman to get their daily fix on media reality. And when they are not following the main stream offerings of the likes of ABC, NBC and CBS (which according to ratings is less and less), they are buried nose deep into cable and the Comedy Central representations like the Daily Show and the Colbert Report. I can only imagine how many dumbed down and illiterate brains tune into these programs regularly and actually believe that hip comedy masquerading as informative chic, actually represents news honest and forthright news reporting.

There is certainly more to news reporting than snappy graphics, CGI animations and the glib remarks made by those who majored more in partying while obtaining their formal educations, than they did focusing on American and global history, politics or journalism.

We are in dire straights my friends. As Glen Beck said on his morning radio program today, all we have heard since last Thursday is non stop wall to wall and 24/7 coverage of the death of Michael Jackson. And mean while? We have a crisis in Iran with the continued threat of a nuclear Iran. The Pakistanis are losing control by the day and Al Qaida is openly pursuing getting their hands on the Pakistani nuclear arsenal. Kim Jong is threatening to aim a rocket at Hawaii and launch it on America's independence day, while openly threatening the world and flaunting the UN and America's weak attempts to control his lunacy.

Meanwhile, the Russians and the Chinese are combining forces to create a new currency cabal to force out and collapse America in the world markets and democracies are being subjugated and replaced by Marxist socialist regimes at a scary rate in central and south America.

And back at home? President Obama continues to fiddle while Rome burns, while Pelosi and congress attempt to sell us all down the river with their recently passed cap and trade bill.

Yes friends and neighbors? Dire straights it is and it seems not only that the American media is asleep at the switch and already gone over to the dark side of the force, but it also appears that the American people by and large could give a damn less.

I am sorry to say, I never thought that I would see the day when rank and file Americans would simply roll over and die rather than stand up for their rights and freedoms and for the protection of their families and their futures. But that is precisely what I am presently seeing. I call it the Rhett Butler philosophy of looking past the reality and simply uttering, 'frankly my dear? I don't give a damn."

Well IMO? It won't be long before they begin to give a damn now. The realities are rushing forward now with the speed of light. Never before has the demise of this nation been so assuredly cast as a certainly, if we continue to pursue the present foolish course of socialist lunacy and appeasement and continue to refuse to reign in a runaway government in Washington.

How does the old saying go? If we don't learn from history we are bound to repeat it?
