Zeitgeist: The Movie

'HE DID NOT WATCH TV. HE DISLIKED THE NEWS. HE DIDN'T LISTEN TO POLITICAL RADIO'.

So says the blaring headline on the Drudge Report and other media outlets this morning, as they carry the statements of one of Jared Loughner's friends who knew Jared Loughner best. So it would seem that the lunatic had little if no interest in politics or anything other than his own fascination with the use of hallucinogens and wide awake dreaming.

Well, almost no interest in anything else. According to his friend, he had an obsession with the on line film Zeitgeist: The Movie.

I had never heard of it, so I googled it then bounced it off youtube and sure enough, there it was. I skipped through the opening and the first few minutes of this conspiratorial gobble gook of anarchist yammering and came away with a bit more of an understanding of Jared Loughner.

Anyone who looks at the opening sequences of this supposed 'film' will easily see how someone under the influence of hallucinogens could be affected by this patchwork of sick minded imagery and rambling. The movie is a conspiratorial litany of dog eared arguments of conspiracies, from the new world order, to 9/11, to the bankers who are taking over and controlling the world.

Was Jared Loughner obsessed with this film? His friend seems to believe so. And if there is truth to that representation, then we have found something that we may be able to attach to Jared Loughner's psyche. And that something isn't a cancerous mind created by listening to conservative talk radio or Anti government right wing extremists. What we may have found is Jared Loughner's allegiance to a belief system more in line with leftist anarchy and the belief in conspiracy theories often foisted by the rabidly liberal left than anything else.

But I am more than happy to wait and see what the final analysis brings forth. Provided the good Sheriff Dupnik hasn't poisoned the case with his pre-trial prejudicial commentaries. And provided the people can gain access to his official records of law enforcement contacts with Loughner prior to his rampage shooting.

You should be ashamed of yourself for buying into the media's blame game and regurgitating the same nonsense on your blog. Maybe you should do more than just "skip through" the film before you make such strong opinions of it.

You criticize the opening sequence of the film as being a "patchwork of sick minded imagery" while implying that it could easily inspire someone to go on a shooting rampage. That same "sick minded imagery" is played over and over again in any media coverage of our wars, or catastrophes. All that the opening sequence consists of, is mostly a compilation of our military firing it's weapons. So, in all fairness, you should also be criticizing every violent Hollywood film ever made and all media coverage of the war. The opening scene to Zeitgeist is to show how disturbing it is to understand the destructive ability of man and his wars -- the film is obviously in protest of such destruction. The film maker of Zeitgeist does not advocate any sort of violence, at all. Actually, the exact opposite is advocated in his films.

Attempting to connect what this Jared kid has done and the Zeitgeist films isn't just absurd, it's completely irresponsible on your part. 'Zeitgeist' has nothing to do with this shooting incident, and any free-thinking individual understands this.

Thank you for your two cents worth Ryan. Wow! I really punched your buttons and got your juices flowing now didn't I?

No apologies.

Sorry lad, but your diatribe against me and what I said is as baseless as those attempting to nail their liberal minded jello of blame on the right and talk radio for the actions of Jared Loughner.

What I said was...."will easily see how someone under the influence of hallucinogens could be affected by this patchwork of sick minded imagery and rambling."

And yes, it is sick minded imagery. I suspect that you must have skipped past the intentional hallucinogenic graphics interspersed with the images of violence and war that the author apparently intended for his viewers.

Never the less, I am ashamed of nothing. In particular, I am not ashamed of "buying into the media's blame game and regurgitating the same nonsense."

I regurgitated nothing. I simply posted an observation of a report that the media provided. And analyzed it for what it truly represents. (That's what blogs are for 'observations.')

So in all fairness? I criticize what I see as wrong with this nation and this society, from politics to religion to off beat news. And if that offends you or trips your triggers? I am not the least bit concerned or apologetic.

In closing, I am appreciative of the fact that you took the time to read the blog and comment, even though your comments are more of a defense of the film, than an examination of whether the film could have led a young impressionable drug abuser to violence.

In closing....

"Attempting to connect what this Jared kid has done and the Zeitgeist films isn't just absurd, it's completely irresponsible on your part."

I didn't attempt to connect anything. What I did do, was pose the question of whether a conspiracy film such as this, could contribute to an obviously already troubled mind.

And I believe it did. Hence Loughner's friend's description of Loughner being "OBSESSED" with the film.

Apparently, Jared Loughner has a lot of company in that respect.

ANYTHING could have affected him.. Sesame Street, Rush L., Keith O., kittens, Tom Hanks, his "best friend", soy milk, Marilyn Manson, imitation leather, bloggers, etc.

Fact: At this point there is no way to prove that 'Zeitgeist' had anything at all to do with his decision to kill. Your assumption that it does is based off an assumption from his "best friend" who hadn't talked to him in at least two years -OR- is based off of your own interpretation of an art film/documentary and you've projected YOUR interpretation into the mind of Loughner in order to "believe" that the film had anything to do with the murders.

That film has been viewed my MILLIONS of people. If this film was such a threat to young impressionable viewers, why have we only heard about one single shooting incident with any mention of 'Zeitgeist'? I think that that statistic has the final say here.

You seem to form a pretty strong opinion about something you "skipped through"

I'd suggest taking a deeper look, especially at the latest film, Moving Forward.

This isn't anarchy, this is science. This isn't violence, this is the end of violence. This isn't conspiracy, this is fact.

The Zeitgeist Movement proposes a peaceful and plausible way for us as humanity to move past the problems that are plaguing our world right now. It's free from any religious or political stance.

Your labeling of "liberal" also shows that you simply took something you didn't take the time to comprehend and stuffed it into a pre-created, comfortable little box. Take some time to challenge yourself, and think for yourself before you post such nonsense.

Ouch boys! That was pretty critical!

So what say? I take you two little Zeitgeist followers and stuff you into a convenient and comfortable little box of your very own.

"The Zeitgeist Movement proposes?"

So let me see....Ryan and Daniel are major defenders of the Zeitgeist Movement? I believe I have a handle on that now.

Now, do try and stay away from the mushrooms and the the psychedelic Graphics programs for windows while you continue to explore your religion of Zeitgeist.

Maybe one day you will figure it all out.

Wow Daniel thank you for the eloquent reply. Loctisprime please go back to your 8 hr day to pay for your mortgage on a box of S*** you dont need, dinner with the kids, and church every sunday. Leave talk of a different world to people that can think outside of what society has brainwashed you into believing. Like your "free" life; you are chained to your possessions. Maybe if we all put our minds together we could have a much better world for us AND future generations. Sheeple like you are the reason that we never have any progress and world banks get bigger, governments get bigger, and the gap between the rich and the starving grows further and further apart. Chew on that a little bit and get back to me...
I will leave you with a quote from Peter Joseph:

"Frankly, I find this isolating, growing association tremendously irresponsible on the part of ABC, NBC and their affiliates - further reflecting the disingenuous nature of the America Media Establishment today."

Here's a tip sport. You need to stop smoking that shit they call bath salts and get yourself a real job, other than living in your mother's basement cruising itunes and netflix everyday and thinking that those who live in the real world give a damn about your fantasies.

"Sport" you can keep your tip. I am a 23 year old that has owned a business traveled the world gone to college owned a house and now work fulltime to provide a life for my 16 year old brother and I. Unfortunately it seems you dont have that diverse understanding it takes to get past society and governments bullshit ideas on "The American dream" or "Freedom" we know nothing of the sort. The american dream is a farse and you are not free the things you own own you. Do the world a favor and acquire some knowledge and diversity before you sandbag us all with your unintelligent whining regarding a creative concept on how to improve WORLD WIDE STANDARD OF LIVING. Or get in line like everyone else to buy the soon to sell out new "ipad" while there are thousands if not hundreds of thousands dying every day across the world because they have no access to food, or water, or any sort of even mediocre medical care. But im sure if you gave them a loan they could start a business and hire other people and "stimulate" their economies like we have done so well for ourselves.

Oh and FYI there are 500,000 members and growing who I presume aren't all crack-heads or whatever your trying to imply.

I have an idea sport. What say you take your post pubescent idealism and baseless infatuations with your Zeitgeist Nirvana of a world absent God and go play somewhere else on the net.

I am not inclined to further waste my time trying to pour sense into that petrified mind of yours. So take your blind allegiances to Zeitgeist conspiracies and your disbelief in God and your believe that banks orchestrated some 9/11 conspiracy if you like.

There is only one true conspiracy afoot in this world today and that conspiracy is the attempted implementation of the Marxist assimilation of minds via egalitarian secular humanism and multiculturalism.

Read up on it sport. Its failed in Europe and it will fail here.
