Big John died today

Goodbye, Jimmy Dean.

The country star turned sausage king has passed away at the age of 81, his wife said Sunday night.

"He was amazing," Donna Meade Dean said of her late husband. "He had a lot of talents."

Dean passed away in his home in Virginia on Sunday evening, The Associated Press reports. He had been sitting down to eat dinner in front of the television when his wife went into the other room. When she returned, he was unresponsive and was later pronounced dead.

Many won't remember but I do. I remember that song on the radio and the tall lanky and affable man who made it his trademark. I remember when he starred in one of the James Bond films, 'Diamonds are Forever', as the ex centric millionaire.

Most people today will perhaps remember Jimmy foremost for the sausage company. And just as many will not realize that he sold the company over twenty five years ago and went off to live peaceably outside of Richmond Virginia with his wife.

Jimmy Dean, a true piece of Americana. Rest easy and rest in peace. He left this world as he lived it, At ease and at peace.
